There are two different types of staff mobility

1. Teaching assignment

Allowing staff of to teach at a partner university within the EU and in Iceland, Norway Macedonia, Liechtenstein, or Turkey.

• The stay must consist of a minimum of 8 teaching hours per week and
• May last between 2 days (excl. travel time) and 2 months.
• Before the stay, there must be a teaching plan approved by AAU and the partner institution.

2. Staff training

Supporting the professional development of staff (including non-teaching staff) in either:

• participation in structured courses, training events, or study visits abroad; or
• a job shadowing in a relevant organisation active in education.

The mobility must comply with the requirements:

• The stay must last between 2 days (excluding travel time) to 2 months, and
• There must be a work programme approved by AAU and the partner institution.

3. Erasmus Staff Weeks

It is also possible to participate in the "Erasmus Staff Weeks", e.g. announced on: http://staffmobility.eu/.

If a teaching or training period consists of placements at more than one partner institution, there must be a well-founded reason for this and this must be stated in the curriculum/work program.

The minimum period of visits to each institution is:

• 2 days and 8 teaching hours at each place for teaching stays and
• 2 days stay at each location for a training program.

The mobility grant supports subsistence and travel expenses. The size of the scholarship depends on the destination of the stay.

NOTE! Please note that mobility grants cannot be used for conference participation!

You will strengthen your international profile and become even more culturally intelligent when going abroad for staff mobility. Furthermore, you can expect to gain valuable knowledge and competencies, e.g.:

Mobility requirements and deadline

The staff mobility must comply with the requirements of the Erasmus Programme, e.g. regarding the length of the period and documentation (further information "Types of mobility").

"Staff mobility" is defined as:

“A training period abroad at a partner higher education institution, enterprise, or any other relevant workplace. The training period abroad enables any staff at a HEI to take part in a training activity abroad that is relevant to their day-to-day work at the HEI. It may take the form of training events (excluding conferences) or job shadowing and observation periods.” (The Erasmus Programme Guide 2023).

Deadlines

To ensure as many trips as possible, and to try to cover the expenses as sensibly as possible, please indicate by mid-September whether you would like a teaching or a staff education stay at a partner university. 

Opportunities after deadline

As planned stays can become cancelled and leave us with grants, please feel free to contact the International Office in case of spontaneous mobility.

Letter of appropriation

Once the grant has been distributed, you will receive an email with information about the amount as well as a template for the above-written agreement or possible refusal.

Please note that we must prioritize:

• teachers who have not previously been on a teaching or in-service training period,
• and that you as a scholarship recipient must be a citizen or have a permanent residence permit in an EU/EEA country.

Employees who have not previously been on teaching or continuing education stay are given the highest priority otherwise the allocation is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Payment of scholarship

The mobility grant is paid after the end of the stay and the travel subscription must, as per AAU's accounting instructions, be submitted no later than 5 days after returning home.

Your teaching or training period will be registered in the European Commission's mobility database "Beneficiary Module" and as an Erasmus grant recipient, you are required to complete an evaluation report (Erasmus participant report).

The report is sent electronically via the "Beneficiary Module" to your AAU email shortly before your stay ends.

NOTE! If the evaluation report is not completed, the International Office will claim the scholarship back.

Please note that due to a large number of interested colleagues wishing to pay AAU a visit, it is regretfully not possible to host all.
