How do you give a realistic presentation of your study programme?

In the pursuit to reduce drop-out rates from your study programme, a realistic presentation of the content, goals, working methods and applications of your education is a key element.

A realistic presentation of your education increases the chance of a good match between the programme and potential students. The goal is that the students experience a clear connection between their perception of the study programme before admission and the experience of the education during the first period after admission.

How can management ensure that there is a clear connection?

Often it will be the head of studies who is responsible for ensuring that there is a clear connection, while it is typically the Study Board, TAP employees and AAU Communication who are the performers. But what can be done in concrete terms?

  • Continuous improvement of the presentation of the programme in the online study guide and other relevant websites (e.g. the Education Guide), guidance events such as Open Days and Study Internships and other marketing material. The focus must be on the specific content of the programme, the emphasis on the different subjects, working methods, master's and career opportunities.
  • Review and process educational presentations with a special focus on reality checks of existing information, peer stories and testimonials. Knowledge gathered in drop-out questionnaires and semester evaluations can be used advantageously. Student representatives of the individual semester group may also be tasked with collecting knowledge from their semester group.

If your education is considering the above, the following questions may be asked:

  • Is the PBL usage adequately described?
  • Is the material on the programme factually correct? For example, check whether the weighting of the different subject elements corresponds to the weight given to the different elements in the marketing material.
  • Are the academic challenging parts also communicated?
  • Is the communication targeted at the target group?
  • Ensure that the educational content is perceived as intended, test it on new and potential students, for example
  • Is it clear what the programme is most about?
  • Is it clear which master opportunities the programme qualifies for?
  • Is it clear which jobs the programme primarily qualifies for?

Every autumn, the collected knowledge can be worked through so that it can be corrected, fully edited and published by the end of the year.
