Systematic feedback on exams

Examples from study environments
If you have a good example of how you have incorporated the following into your studies, please contact AAU Student Guidance.
How is systematic feedback on exams ensured?
Feedback is already given in all programmes in many different contexts, and feedback can be given in many ways. The core is to establish and realise a comprehensive systematic approach to feedback on the programme.
Here are a number of suggestions for what a comprehensive approach to feedback might contain:
- An overall feedback policy, e.g. with principles for feedback and types of feedback.
- A plan/annual cycle for when major processes with feedback are implemented.
- A more detailed list of the types of activities associated with feedback.
- Specific VIP guide for feedback for the various activities.
The purpose of a structured and thorough approach to feedback is thus to retain students by strengthening academic commitment and motivation to complete the programme.
In addition, feedback is also of great importance for the individual student's learning outcome, as a grade alone does not give the student knowledge of what was right and where efforts need to be made to improve.
Please reflect on the following before you begin:
- Do we have a common approach to feedback in the programme?
- Do we know what is effective feedback?
- How should specific feedback be given in the project guide or on written assignments?
If you want to know more
The head of studies and the Study Board are responsible for ensuring that systematic feedback is given on tests during the studies, while VIPs give the feedback to the students.
